A snippet of Tommy Bolin jamming with various musicians in New York 1971. Definitely Jeremy Steig on flute (2nd jam), and POSSIBLY Don Alias on drums & Gene Perla on bass – though, not certain. Tommy was also jamming with the likes of Billy Cobham and Jan Hammer around this period.

TOMMY BOLIN “7 SEAS LOUNGE JAM” 2nd DEC 1976

TOMMY BOLIN & THE GOOD RATS “STRATUS” 1974

Well worth the wait after the long intro :) Tommy jamming with the Good Rats & CARMINE APPICE! For those who are curious: Tommy takes the first solo (3:51), John Gatto is the second (7:18), & Mickey Marchello takes the last (9:28-ish).

ZEPHYR “ST JAMES INFIRMARY” 1969

A televised performance, presumably 1969 (possibly early 1970).

JAMES GANG “STRATUS GUITAR SOLO” 1974

Boulder, Colorado. The video does NOT match audio... LOVE that cool throwaway of his slide at 4.37 seconds :)

ENERGY, ABELINE, KANSAS, 1972

Bobby Berge originally posted the video. For the purposes of this usage I edited Bobby’s drum solo out – I meant NO DISRESPECT by that as he’s on top form, but that can be seen if you see his original version. Tommy Bolin (gtr), Stanley Sheldon (bass), Jeff Cook (vocals), Bobby Berge (drums) & Tommy Stephenson (keyboards)

NORMA JEAN BELL “I'M THE BADDEST BITCH”, 1996

Recorded in 1996. I tagged on an introduction from Tommy during a Tommy Bolin Band performance at Jazz City Studios 11/16/76 purely for fun.

ZEPHYR “SURF STRUT” 1970

Recorded in the vacant 2nd story office space on Pearl Street. Audio recorded by Wyndham Hannaway on a Nagra field recorder during summer 1970 as we prepared material for our second album. A spontaneous jam, one of many we recorded as we tried different approaches to creating music for the record.  Sounds to me as though Tommy instigated it. (David Givens Oct 2017)

DEEP PURPLE “AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND” PART 1, 1975

13 November 1975, Western Springs, Auckland. All footage is taken from a TVNZ documentary and all takes place in various locations in Auckland. Audio & Video are not matched. There is no known TVNZ footage of any audio being matched to the video, when it was aired (in 1975) the very brief live footage was accompanied by the Made in Japan Version of ‘Smoke On The Water’.

TOMMY BOLIN “RED BARON” BILLY COBHAM, 1973
‍‍

The final track from Billy Cobham's ground breaking ‘Spectrum’

JAMES GANG “WILDFIRE OUTTAKE”, 1974

Audio and visual not matched. The video is from Don Kirshner & an interview with Bob Harris. We edited out the first part of this as was more or less an instrumental backing run, so decided to come in at the end with Bolin’s outtro solo.

ZEPHYR “SANTA MONICA CIVIC AUDITORIUM”, 1971

Despite the poor audio/visual content and bad sync, this remains as a powerful document of LIVE Zephyr. It was Tommy and Bobby’s last gig with the band (until the 1973 reunion at the “Art’s Bar and Grill’ gig). Also renowned for the fact that both David and Tommy’s guitars were stolen the NEXT day!
